EX-DG Imo State Broadcasting Corporation Stabs Wife To Death

A former Director-General of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) Theophilus Okere has reportedly stabbed his wife to death.

The incident happened in Imerinwe community in the Ngor-Okpala local government area of Imo on Monday.


The ex-DG, 85, was said to have stabbed his wife to death unknowingly.

According to NAN's report, Mr Okere has been showing signs of dementia, a disease characterised by a declining memory, language, problem-solving and other thinking skills that assist a person to perform a normal task.

A source, NAN reports, said the family has been managing Mr Okere's dementia for a while.

”Okere has been down with dementia and the family has been managing the problem. Even today that he stabbed his wife to death and when he was asked why he did it, he responded that his wife was still sleeping,” the source reportedly said.

”The other Sunday, Okere went to church and said that his car was missing when in fact the car was parked in his compound.”

The wife who was 77-year-old was a retiree of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo and had been married for 50 years.

Spokesman of the Imo State Police Command, Mr Orlando Okeowu confirmed the incident but added that the police has started its investigation into the incident.

“It is true that the former director-general of the state-owned broadcasting corporation, Mr T.C. Okere, about 85-years allegedly stabbed his wife to death this morning. The command has commenced an investigation into the matter,” he reportedly said.
