A pastor of a famous church in Benin city, Edo state, has been arrested by men of the Edo state police command after he hatched a plan to murder his wife, sister-in-law and father-in-law.
Pastor Anselm Idele, Overseer, Temple of Praise Church, Ikpoba Hill, was arrested in Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, 24 hours before he hatched his plans.
Standard Gazette gathered that Idele was arrested while contracting some assassins to kill his father-in-law, Mr Robinson Ogunbor, sister-in-law, Joyce Edokpolor and wife, Maryjane Ogunbor.
The Pastor, Standard Gazette crime correspondent, Festus Alenkhe, gathered, has been married for several years with four children.
SG gathered that the couple had a big disagreement, leading to Maryjane moving out of the house and returning to her family's home.
Several efforts to reconcile the duo failed. Idele had ended up in court with the Ogunbor's family, and the matter is currently pending in court, SG learned.
The squabble took a different turn when Idele allegedly concluded plans to assassinate his three worst enemies.
SG gathered that the Pastor contacted a man identified as Felix whose task was to hire two others to kill his wife and in-laws.
Idele paid Felix N20,000 as a mobilization fee with assurance to pay him with 100 by 50 feet land in Uteh in Benin.
The land is said to be worth N1.5 million.
Standard Gazette learned that Felix made a u-turn and disclosed the plan to the State Intelligence Burea, who went undercover as one of the gunmen to carry out the assassination.
The plan to assassinate the family was recorded and is currently with the police as evidence.
SG gathered that the plan was meant to hatch yesterday, Sunday 25 July 2021, at 10 am in Mr Robinson Ogunbor's house in Benin.
However, Idele was arrested on Saturday, 24 July 2021.
Mr Ogunbor expressed his appreciation to God, Nigerian police and Felix for saving his family's lives.
He told Standard Gazette that "my daughter and the suspect had so much quarrel, and he was always beaten my daughter, and she decided that she will not marry him again. I really don't know why the young man wants to kill my family and me. I want the police to investigate him thoroughly."
The suspect, Idele, denied the accusation, alleging that Felix came up with the plan to kill his wife and in-laws.
He said, "It was Mr Felix that suggested that the man and his two children should be killed.
"Yes, I gave him N20,000 for feeding, and I saw the gun that was to be used for the operation. l am a pastor in Benin."
Edo State Police Public Relations officer SP Bello Kontongs said the police advised Mr Felix to play along with the suspect in the assassination plot.
According to SP Kontongs, "we have to frustrate the assassination's plan with the suspect's prompt arrest. The suspect would be charged to court for attempted assassination".©Standard Gazette, 2021.
