Tragedy struck in Ekpoma as a fast food restaurant owner, Mr Justin Otene, was murdered in cold blood by gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers in Ekpoma, at his residence in Idumebo quarters, Ekpoma, in Esan West local government area of Edo State.

The incident has again triggered an uproar in the Ekpoma community, which nearly resulted in another protest.

According to sources, Mr Otene had returned home to pick up freshly prepared food meant to restock his restaurant after supplies ran out. It was while he was at his residence that the gunmen attacked. The assailants, believed to be kidnappers, attempted to abduct him. However, when Mr Otene resisted, they opened fire, killing him on the spot.

A visit to his residence shows sympathisers who converged to console his family over the tragic incident.

Meanwhile, security agents, which include the police and members of the Edo State security corps, were visible at every attractive location to forestall a breakdown of law and order, as a notice of protest was earlier circulated on social media, which triggered more tension in the area.

The zonal commander, Edo State security Corps, Mr Joel Aidamebor, who confirmed the incident alongside the coordinator, Edo State special security squad, Mr Noal Amiolemen, said the governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has immediately deployed security personnel to unravel the circumstances behind the killing.

“As we speak there is an order from the governor that all security apparatus operating in the state should conduct a manhunt for the killers in a bid to bringing them to book”
