A 13-year-old teenager has allegedly murdered his father in Benin city, Edo state.
The incident happened at Egbon Estate in Evbuotubu, Benin city, Edo state.
The 79 years old father, Osariakhi Oronsaye, had earlier raised the alarm a week ago that his son wanted to kill him.
Standard Gazette Crime correspondent Festus Alenkhe gathered that the policemen from Evbuotubu police station, Benin city, were invited to arrest the young boy.
But on their way to the police station, his father appealed to the police to leave the boy alone.
However, the young boy carried out his threat as he allegedly axed his father to death in his sleep in the early hours of Sunday, 20 June 2021.
Standard Gazette gathered that he used the axe to strike his father on the head, killing him on the spot.
The secondary school student is now with the police in Evbuotubu, where he is expected to be transferred to the homicide department of the Edo state police command headquarters in Benin city.
Some family members interviewed described the incident as tragic.
A family member old Standard Gazette that, “we have not known Abubakar to be having a mental problem, but we are shocked with his action now”.
The police in Edo state is yet to make a statement on the incident.
Some observers said the 13 years old suspect is a minor, but the boy might be charged to juvenile court.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
