Property worth millions of naira was destroyed by a fire that gutted Anambra Supermarket in the Aduwawa area of Benin City.
At the scene of the incident, supermarket staff and officials from Edo and the federal fire services were making frantic efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to the middle and lower floors of the building.
The cause of the fire could not be ascertained, and how it started completely destroyed the electronics sections located at the top floor of the two-storey building of the supermarket.

It took the combined efforts of the Edo State and federal fire services to curtail the fire from affecting the boutique, beverage sections, other departments and nearby houses in the area.
Sympathisers besieged the premises to join in putting out the fire but were prevented by security personnel to obviously prevent looting of any sort.
Some staff of the supermarket described the incident as a huge loss and commended the personnel of the Edo State and federal fire services for the timely arrival.
“We were surprised to see the fire outbreak and I must confess it was really devastating we lost so many property as I am here i can’t quantify but I know is worth millions of Naira it is very sad and painful however we thank God that no live was lost during the fire”
At the time of this report, officials of the Edo State and Federal fire services were still on the ground to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished.
