The former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,  has underscored the crucial role of education in Nigeria’s democracy, emphasising that it is a gradual process and that the citizens’ education is paramount.

As a precursor to the highly anticipated Goodluck Jonathan  Foundation Democracy Dialogue in Benin City, set for Thursday, the former President undertook a momentous visit to the palace of the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare the Second.

The former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, said that looking at Nigeria’s democracy since 1999, the freedom that comes with democratic governance is what the citizens want to feel.

The former President has highlighted that the upcoming Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF) Democracy Day in Benin City is not just another event, but a significant platform focused on education for societal transformation. It will unite a diverse group of key political leaders, policymakers, and experts from across the continent to delve into the critical role of education.

He reiterated that robust education plays a pivotal role in fostering effective political leadership recruitment and realising the developmental aspirations of African nations, a theme that resonates with the upcoming Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue.

The Benin Monarch Oba Ewuare, the second while offering prayers for the former President, appreciated his unrelenting effort in nation-building.

The Benin Monarch said the sacrifice and foundation the former President laid in the country is now being enjoyed as the peaceful coexistence he fought for has now been built upon by his successors.

President Goodluck Jonathan was accompanied on the visit by a former deputy Governor of Edo state, Mike Ogiadomen.
