Standard Gazette had reported on Sunday how a former worker of the ex-lawmaker, Atiku Yohanna, a resident of Kano, had burgled his house and murdered "Aunty Mary".

Hon. Igbas said the suspect suddenly stopped work and went about other matters in Uromi.

He is baffled that the alleged murderer he accommodated and fed could commit such a heinous crime in his house.

Aunty Mary was a cook, and she was responsible for a daily meal for Atiku, who later turned around to kill her.

Narrating his ordeal, Igbas said he went to a political meeting in Uromi and returned home the same day at about midnight. He was exhausted, so he went straight to bed.

The following day, he narrated, he looked for Aunty Mary until he became curious before he began searching the entire house.

He found the lifeless body of his cook in a wardrobe and immediately contacted the police before evacuating her body to the mortuary.

"The case was then transferred to the Homicide department of the Edo State Police Command, where my detention was ordered," Hon. Igbas detailed.

"I spent five days in police detention as the search for the killers intensified," the lawmaker said, adding that he had earlier denied having anything to do with the cook's death.

He continued, "I thank God that the two suspects who actually committed the murder were arrested."

Standard Gazette had reported on Sunday that Atiku and his accomplice, Obed Sai killed Aunty Mary after she recognized them before hiding her remains in the wardrobe.

Hon. Igbas described the late Mary as a calm and gentle woman whose life was suddenly cut short by evil men.

He commended the police for vindicating him due to the arrests of the two suspects.

He added, "so many innocent persons must be languishing in jail over a similar case like his own."

Hon Igbas assured that he would join the deceased's family to give the late Mary a befitting burial in Uromi.

Edo State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bello kontongs had earlier confirmed the arrest of two suspects alleged to have been directly involved in the murder of Mary.

SP kontongs assured that the two suspects would be charged with armed robbery and murder.

He said Hon Igbas had been released unconditionally as there was no trace of his involvement in the murder.
