TEdo State – The political base of Edo State APC swollen on Saturday, 13 April 2024, as the party officially received the two-time Senator of Edo South Mathew Urhoghide, seven former local government chairmen, One Vice president, and their many supporters from PDP in a well-attended rally held in Benin, Edo State.
The Standard Gazette reports that the former Edo South Senator Mathew Urhoghide was also announced as the Director General of the APC governorship campaign team.
APC faithful across the state converged to attend the August meeting as leaders after leaders expressed their satisfaction with their presence in the eventful rally to receive defectors from PDP.
Two-time Senator Mathew Urhoghide, while giving reasons for his defection and appreciating the party for making him the DG of the campaign, said that as a founding father of the Apc, he has decided to come back home and pitch tent with the party in a bid to take over Osadebey Avenue on September 21st, 2024.

Other defectors expressed happiness that they had dumped their former party, the PDP, to be part of the progressiveness of the APC.
Some other party leaders, including the Acting Chairman of Edo State APC Jarret Tenebe and Senator Adams Oshiomhole, said they have put up the Armour in preparation to fight vigorously to change what they described as eight years of PDP misrule.
They maintained that there is no newcomer in the APC as they are all one without segregation in the party. They expressed their desire to get Senator Urhoghide back into their fold, and one of the leaders openly Apologized to him for personally offending him politically.
Other groups that defected are Igbo PDP members and Labour Party Market women in Isiuwa ward.
