The Edo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) says it has apprehended 186 motorists across the state for failing to install speed limiter device in their vehicles.
The State Sector Commander, Samuel Odukoya who disclosed this at the weekend while speaking with our reporter on he enforcement of the device, said it was done in collaboration with other security agencies in the state.

“The enforcement started February nationwide, and between February 1st and 2nd, we apprehended 186 motorists for not installing the device in their vehicles,”
He said any motorist found guilty of violating the speed limiter order is liable to pay a fine of N3, 000, adding that they only arrest motorists after certifying that the vehicle doesn’t have device.
“Once you are stopped we demanded for the certificate of installation but if you can produce it, we check whether the device is install in your vehicle or not, and if it doesn’t, it would be apprehended and has to pay the stipulated fine after facing Mobile Court,”
Odukoya noted that the major cause of accident on the highway was due to excessive speed, saying that with the speed limiter motorists would not be able to go on excessive speed thereby reducing accident rate of accident on the roads.
While calling on motorists to always obey traffic laws and installed the device, he appealed to the passengers to bear with FRSC in their attempt to enforce the speed limiter order which he said is for their safety.
“Some of the passages are not happy with us during the exercise. They thought we are wasting their time .But what we are doing is in their best interest. So they should support and cooperate with FRSC to ensure the success of the exercise, he said.
He however called on motorists to collect their certificate after installing the device to save the FRSC the rigours of going through the internet to certify whether it was installed or not.
