Garba Shehu Accuses Media Of Focusing On Coronavirus

The Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu accuses the media of paying more attention to Coronavirus than malaria.

The Coronavirus was first discovered in Wuhan China and it has since made international headlines with several cases reported in different countries.

The first case was reported on Friday in Lagos after an Italian man from Milan was diagnosed.

Shehu on his Facebook page on Sunday asked the media to also focus on malaria with “daily 822 malaria deaths peculiar to Nigeria”

“This morning’s newspapers, all of them have Coronavirus as the lead, cover story. When will they bring the spotlight to bear on 822 who are killed by malaria every day in Nigeria?” Shehu asked.

Like Malaria and Coronavirus, the outbreak and spread of Lassa fever have spread across over 115 local government in the country.

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed that over 118 have died since the beginning of 2020.

According to NCDC, the country currently has over 2,633 confirmed cases and 609 suspicious cases.

Currently, the NCDC said, the disease has spread to 27 out of the 36 states in the country.
