Standard Gazette gathered that the deceased, identified as Onyeka Augustine, 42, is of No. 6 Akugbe street, off First Upstairs road, Benin City.

Augustine was electrocuted while trying to illegally connect a cable that was earlier disconnected at Eguavoen street, in the same area.

Police from the Ikpoba Hill vision attended the scene and found a man hanging on the wire.

The body was removed and now deposited at the mortuary in Benin City.

Augustine’s family has been informed.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Philip Aliyu Ogbadu, has warned residents to shun illegal activities as the result is always ‘disastrous.’

He urged Edo residents to continue to support the police with credible information towards achieving its mandate of protecting lives and property.
