A vicious suspected kidnapper has been shot dead by men of the Edo state police command.

Police operatives through Egba Divisional headquarters in Uhumwuode local government area of Edo state foiled a kidnap attempt on 27 June 2022 at 11:05 pm and neutralized the suspected kidnapper with arms recovered.

The operatives on a routine patrol encountered some suspected kidnappers around Egba in Edo state.

Upon sighting the police, the kidnappers opened fire, leading to a gun duel.

The Standard Gazette gathered that one of the kidnappers, Amodu Gonsho “m,” an alleged notorious kidnapper on the command’s wanted list, was killed during the exchange of gunfire with police operatives.

Other members of the gang, however, escaped with gunshot injuries.

One locally-made cut-to-size gun, one cutlass and a torchlight were recovered at the crime scene.

The police have intensified strong efforts to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

Edo state Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, renewed his commitment to ensuring robust police patrol in Edo state.

He warned criminal elements carrying out nefarious acts in Edo state to relocate from the state or risk serious police onslaught.
