A northern group, North-East Unity Forum, has cautioned the leader of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, against his continuous inflammatory statements against northern Nigeria and its people.
The group made the call at a Press Conference held at the Late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Tomb in Bauchi yesterday.

The chairman of the group, Comrade Alkasim Nuhu Abdulkadir, said IPOB must stop its unguarded and inflammatory statements or the forum will have no choice than to join the Patriotic Coalition of Northern Groups in the call for the Igbo to leave the north on October 1st.
“We advise Kanu and his rowdy crowd to desist from making further inflammatory remarks against our people and our leaders. If Nnamdi Kanu, does not stop his Biafran campaigns and his continuous derogatory statements, we, the North East Unity Forum, will have no choice but to join the Patriotic Coalition of Northern Groups and insist that they (Igbos) leave the north on October 1st,”the group said.
The group further maintained that it feels duty-bound to break its silence on the “unhealthy development” introduced into the country by some “self-seeking, unpatriotic elements who preach hate, incitement and violence” in the name of agitation for an independent Biafran nation.
“For quite some time, the abusive and provocative nature of the agitation has been tolerated even though they directly affect the sensibilities of the people of the regions particularly the north, which was specifically targeted for harassment and ridicule.
“Thus, an unruly crowd in the South Eastern part of this country led by Nnamdi Kanu, had for quite long disturbed the peace of the nation with greater emphasis on Northerners whom they call baboons in zoo and other derogatory names,” it added.
It added that the provocation had been persistent without any attempt to address it by the authorities as well as all political, religious and traditional leadership across the country.
The group informed that the formation of Coalition of Northern Groups in June was to defend the interests of the region.
It added that the coalition has urged Nigerian and international authorities to let the Igbo people be granted their independence in peace in the face of the unwarranted and deliberate provocations by Nnamdi Kanu and his ilk which grew so intolerable.
The group also condemned the activities of some northern elite whom it said, were silent in face of the Igbo provocation but suddenly woke up and joined its southeast counterpart in attacking the Coalition of Northern Youths.
According to the group, more pronounced in its hostility to the Coalition is the contraption fronted by a certain Usman Bugaje, which it said attempted to force the coalition into partisanship in favour of the presidential aspiration of a north east politician with an open preference for the Igbo at the expense of Northern interest.
“They have attempted various antics aimed at destabilizing the patriotic coalition of Northerners which they see as an imminent threat to the ambition of their principal in view of the coalition’s hard stance on the Igbo and their provocative method of agitating for an independent Biafra.
“The Northeast Unity Forum sees the Bugaje move through the lens of cowardly sabotage and wishes to advice him to shed the cloak of intrigue and come into the open to test his popularity against the overwhelming interest of majority northerners,” he stated.
He described Bugaje as one of the flock of Northern traitors, saying that “we hereby reaffirm an unflinching support for the Patriotic Coalition of Northern Groups.”
