Edo State Police commissioner Mr Funso Adegboye says everything is done to clamp down on the alleged killers of over twenty police personnel by criminal herders in Delta State, which has some Edo-born indigenes as victims.

The Police commissioner dropped the hint while addressing a group of protesters at the Edo state command.

A few weeks ago, over twenty policemen were gruesomely murdered by some criminal herdsmen in a community horror in Ughelli Delta State who were on a peaceful rescue mission. Since then, the police authority has not issued any statement on the ugly development.

However, worried by the police silence, some members of the public and civil society took a protest to the police headquarters in Benin to demand justice for the slain police officers.

The commissioner of police, Funsho Adegboye, who assured the protesters that the police authority would issue a statement concerning the killing within 24 hours, appreciated their concern and appreciated them for their concern.

He said the police will not leave any stone unturned to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act, stressing that the death of innocent policemen on active duty can never be swept under the carpet.

The spokesperson for the protesters, Kola Edokpayi, said they decided to protest because they believe the dead policemen deserve justice, as many of them have families.

They said they were worried and uncomfortable over the silence of the police authority on the issue; hence, they decided to take to protest.

They also took the protest to the NUJ Edo State Council secretariat, where the chairman, Festus Alenkhe, received them and commended them on their conduct.

The NUJ Chairman also joined others in condemning the ugly incident and called on the police authority to act fast.

The protesters also used the opportunity to call on the police IGP and the police commission to take appropriate steps to end the injustice that has been done to the police, especially as regards welfare.
