RESIDENTS of Ujabhole-Uwessan and Ibore communities of Esan Central Local Government Area are facing imminent ejection following the menacing gully and erosion, which has continued to plague the town.
The gully of frightening magnitude and extensive width and depth at Ibore has worsened in recent times with the arrival of heavy rains.
It has continued its devastation having extended its finger links far and wide covering the entire southern axis of the town.
Our reporter, who visited the villages, observed many houses had been swallowed up, rendering the occupants homeless while threatened residents are relocating in droves.
Devastated residents of Unogbo, Udomi, Afuda and Ujabhole quarters are also awaiting evacuation without access to their homes.
A terribly disturbed community leader, Pa Afred Ogbeide, whose
building is at the edge of one of the gullies, described the situation
as pathetic, horrible and unbearable.
He said: “Nobody is listening to us. Everybody is quiet about it. It looks like they don’t hear in Nigeria what is happening in Ujabhole. It appears they regard us as outcasts, as if we are not Nigerians for whatever reason we don’t know.”
He recalled several houses had gone with the gully while many owners of lost buildings had died from extreme frustration, adding that more houses were being lost daily as the rains continue.
