Unknown gunmen assassinated Oba Ayinde Odetola, the traditional ruler of Agodo village in Ewekoro local council of Ogun State, and four of his aides yesterday.

The monarch, along with his aides, was said to have been assassinated and their remains burned to ashes.

Oba Odetola and his aides were reportedly assassinated and burned as soon as they arrived in town around 11:00 a.m. yesterday.

According to reports, the tragedy was the second such heinous act in the town in the recent few months.

The community's crisis began when the late monarch, who was from the Ake dynasty, was chosen as the community's traditional ruler, but the Owu people allegedly refused to accept someone from Ake as their king.

The police spokesperson in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, but denied that four of the monarch’s aides were killed.

He said after killing the traditional ruler, the perpetrators burnt the monarch with his car.
