Passengers in two buses travelling from the Eastern part of the country to Abuja have been kidnapped in Kogi state.

The incident happened at Inele-Eteke Ogugu in Olamaboro’s local government area.

The two buses, which were said to belong to GIG and ABC transport companies, travelling to Abuja, were hijacked by kidnappers over the weekend.

The eyewitness account revealed that the GIG bus had left Umuahia, Abia State, heading to Abuja at 7:30 am on Saturday.

The source further stated that GIG company had contacted security services, and they were tracking the vehicle to rescue the victims.

Kogi State Police Command, who also confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday by the Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Williams Aya, said that the security members and local vigilantes and hunters had been drafted to the forest in a bid to rescue the kidnap victims.

Aya said two buses were involved, but he can not ascertain how many passengers were kidnapped during the incident.

He further disclosed that the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand Onuoha, has deployed an additional Tactical Squad consisting of a Quick Response Unit, a Police Mobile Force, a Couter-Terrorism Unit, as well as conventional Police personnel to the area to continue with the bush combing and to ensure all victims were rescued without being hurt.
