Phone snatchers have stabbed a nurse, Hadiza Musa, the Deputy Head of the Maternity Unit at Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, Kofar Gayan, Zaria, in Kaduna State, to death.

Hadiza was attacked while returning from work on Saturday last week.

Confirming the unfortunate incident, her husband, Hamza Ibrahim Idris, who works in Abuja, stated that on that fateful day, she called to tell him she was going to the salon to get her hair done and would also visit an Islamic chemist in Filin Mallawa, Tudun Wada, Zaria, which he accented to.

He said their last conversation was around 6 p.m. that same day, after she left the chemist and he transferred some money to her.

After some time, he could no longer reach her on the phone.

“I kept calling her line until the following morning when I concluded that her phone battery must have run down,” he said

Idris said that according to the story narrated to him that the wife boarded a commercial motorcycle around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, on her way home, when she was attacked by hoodlums who attempted to snatch her phone.

He explained that there were signs her hands had been squeezed, indicating she struggled to hold onto the phone.

He added that she was hit hard on the head, as there were visible injuries and bleeding, which he believes caused her death.

According to Idris, “After she slipped into a coma, they snatched the phone and dumped her by the roadside along Mallawa Eid Ground in Tudun Wada in Zaria.

Passers-by  found  her in a bad shape, lying critically and took her to a clinic, from where she was referred to ABU Teaching Hospital, Shika, where she was confirmed dead.”

He further explained that his wife’s death came just three months after the passing of her sister, whose three children she had adopted.

She is survived by her three biological children and the three adopted ones.

The Hospital Secretary, Abdulkadir Balele, also confirmed the incident, explaining that Hadiza was the Deputy Head of the Maternity Unit and was on duty until late Friday evening.

He described her as a professional, hardworking, and dedicated health worker who committed her life to saving others, adding that her death is a great loss to the entire hospital.

The Kaduna State Police Command, Public Relations Officer,  Mansur Hassan, did not respond to texts sent to his phone for not returning the call to comment.
