The recent spike in the prices of food and diesel, according to Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information, is not limited to Nigeria.
He stated this at a press conference in Abuja on Monday.

The minister’s remarks come only hours after the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhamad Abubakar, called the federal government to take immediate action to solve the country’s food price spike.
Concerns have also been expressed around the country over the rise in fuel prices, which has apparently resulted in the closure of enterprises.
On Monday, Mohammed commented on the problem, saying that the price increase is a global trend and that the federal government is taking steps to address it.
“This misuse of statistics is clear mischief. Those who bandy around these figures without putting them in context are being clever by half. Let’s take the price of foodstuffs and petrol. Google the price of foodstuffs in other countries, especially the UK and the US, and you will discover a steep rise. Ditto for the price of gas or petrol,” he stated.
Lai Mohammed maintained that comparing the prices of foodstuffs and other commodities now with pre-2015 figures is mischievous.
