Housemaid Who Allegedly Murdered Ex-Governor Igbinedion’s Mom Arrested

Edo State Police Command has arrested one Dominion Okoro.

The suspect was arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Madam Maria Oredola Igbinedion, mother of a former Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion.

Standard Gazette gathered that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday, 15 December 2021 in Calabar, the capital of Cross River state, by the combined tactical team of the Nigerian police in Edo state.

She is currently being held at the Edo state police command headquarters in Benin city.

Edo state police public relations officer SP Bello Kontongs could not be reached for comment at the time of this report.

The 85-year-old died on the 2nd of December.

There were reports that Madam Maria was allegedly strangled to death or suffocated with a pillow by her housemaid, who then went on the run.

The report also claimed that the maid who hailed from Cross River state ransacked the woman’s home for her jewelries and money, which she allegedly carted away.

However, the reports of the murder were not immediately confirmed by the Edo State Public Relations Officer, SP Bello Kontongs

Maria was the first wife of Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion.

She is survived by her husband, Chief Igbinedion, her children, former Governor Lucky Igbinedion, Bright Igbinedion, Charles Igbinedion, Mabel Amadin, and many grandchildren.
