Mr Imaobong Akpan, a suspected fraudster, was detained by members of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department for allegedly impersonating the state Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno.
Odiko MacDon, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said the suspect was apprehended on the basis of a petition while being paraded at the command headquarters in Ikot Akpan on Tuesday.
Five SIM cards, two phones, seven dollars, and five yuan were among the items recovered from him, he said.
Apart from impersonating the commissioner on Facebook, the suspect scammed unwary members of the public, especially women, by promising them phoney jobs after having sex with them, according to MacDon.
"The defendant, a well-known fraudster and sex maniac confessed to fraudulently creating the Facebook account," he stated.
"He exploited the abovementioned account to defraud others of millions of dollars by luring innocent and unknowing girls to hotels, having carnal knowledge of them, and promising to help them find jobs."
“He succeeded in luring more than 10 ladies through the fraudulent Facebook account and had sexual intercourse with them at various hotels while posing as the personal assistant to the honourable commissioner.”
While speaking with newsmen, the suspect confessed to the act claiming he didn't know what came over him.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
