A pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in FESTAC Town, Lagos State's Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, was attacked and killed by suspected hoodlums.
Pastor Babatunde Dada, the victim, was assassinated within the RCCG Chapel of Resurrection on 13 Road, 6th Avenue, FESTAC Town.
The killing, which occurred on December 2, was allegedly carried out by two new converts who had attended the church for the first time the Sunday before the incident.
During an altar call, the two youths were alleged to have come out and surrendered their life to Jesus.
They were housed on the church grounds after claiming to be stranded.
They had only been at the church for a week when they allegedly stabbed the cleric to death.
Mr Abolarinwa Olatunbosun, a family member, told reporters that the RCCG pastor was assassinated after withdrawing money from a bank.
"The pastor went to a bank to withdraw some money and then proceeded to the first level of the church to relax," he claimed. Two people who claimed to be new converts went upstairs to meet him, broke his head, and killed him.
"The incident was reported to the authorities, and one of the suspects who fled to Ilorin was apprehended."
He claimed that criminals were targeting churches and pastors because they thought there was money in the church.
He recommended religious institutions to be security vigilant and implement tactics to prevent criminals from murdering, kidnapping, and robbing religious leaders and believers.
Meanwhile, Adekunle Ajisebutu, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, claimed he had not yet been briefed on the issue.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
