The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors says it wants the National Assembly to enact laws that will ban government officials from seeking healthcare abroad.
This according to the medical doctors, will help curb the trend and make politicians get serious about the health sector.
NARD President, Dr Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi, stated this on Thursday during an interactive session with the Punch.
Recall that the Standard Gazette earlier on Thursday reported on the strike action embarked upon by the resident Doctors.
According to him, no meaningful achievement can take place in the health sector if political office holders are not banned.
“It has not been taken seriously because they have the money to fly abroad. Let me be blunt, our number one person just flew abroad to do medical check-up, going in search of best global practices.
“If you check the amount of money that we put into medical tourism, and put such money down in our hospitals here, you don’t need to travel. He noted that as long as there’s always an alternative, they wouldn’t mind traveling.
President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday travelled to the UK on a routine medical check-up and is expected to arrive in two weeks’ time.
