On Thursday, Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje of the Ikeja Magistrates' Court in Lagos ordered Sakiru Oladosu, 50, and Tola Rasaq, 40, to be remanded for defiling and impregnating a 13-year-old girl.
After getting the victim pregnant, the defendants took her for an illegal abortion.
The suspects, who live in Lagos' Mushin neighborhood, were charged with defilement and unlawful procuring of abortion by the police.
According to Section 137 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, defilement is penalized by up to life in prison, while unlawful procurement of a miscarriage is penalised by three years in jail under Section 135(1)(2).
"Oladosu colluded with Rasaq to pay N4,000 for an injection to illegally abort the pregnancy," Ajayi claimed.
Magistrate Kubeinje refused to hear their arguments and ordered that they be held at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the state Director of Public Prosecutions' advice.
The matter was deferred by Kubeinje until July 7, 2022, for mention.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
