Centre For Human Rights and Conflict Resolution has condensed in strong terms the recent killing of three police men, in Okoloke, Yagba West LGA of Kogi State, while carrying out their lawful duties.
The Executive Director of the organization, Idris Miliki, called for a new strategy in community Resilience in the State, saying the unfortunate murder of these police officers is condemnable and worrisome.
“For security officers performing their legitimate duties to be killed in such a manner is a sad development.
Despite the efforts of our security men and the state government in recent times, this type of madness could still manifest”.
”We sympathize with their family, the Nigerian police force in Kogi State. We urge holistic community involvement in the security design in our state.
“This unfortunate, incredible happening has further reinforced the call for the creation of State police in Nigeria, and the time is now,” the statement added .
He therefore called on all communities, villages, and local governments in the State to establish a security committee in their respective locations to complement the efforts of conventionally trained personnel.
“Retired and serving security persons who are indigenes in such a community should be included in the villages across the state.
“Resources should be mobilized by both private and public indigenes to complement the efforts of the State and federal government, as security is everyone’s business.
He charged the people to be always vigilant and conscious of their community’s security situation at all times.
“We must create an early warning and respond mechanism, share credible and timely security information to relevant institutions and agencies.” He added.
