According to reports from Independence UK, the victim at the center of the organ harvesting saga involving former Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, Ike Ekweremadu, has stated that he is “not for sale.”

Ekweremadu and two accomplices were found guilty of conspiring to harvest the victim’s kidney, with Ekweremadu receiving a sentence of nine years and eight months imprisonment, while his wife, Beatrice, received four years and six months and the medical doctor involved, Dr. Obinna Obeta, was sentenced to ten years imprisonment.
The victim, who has not been named for legal reasons, claimed he was lured to the United Kingdom with the promise of a job opportunity. In his impact statement, which was read in court on Friday, the victim revealed his humble background as the oldest of seven siblings living in a Lagos village without electricity or running water.
After his father fell ill with a heart problem, he was forced to become a street trader and moved to the city to provide for his family, selling mobile phone accessories from a wheelbarrow and making at most £7 a day and as little as 50p.
The victim said he was approached with an opportunity to work in the UK, which he had “always dreamed of but never thought would happen.” However, upon arriving in the UK, he was shocked to discover the real reason for the trip – to harvest his organs to give to Ekweremadu’s daughter, Sonia.
He claimed that he was not informed of this by Dr. Obinna Obeta and that he would not have agreed to it if he had known. “My body is not for sale,” he said.
The victim also expressed concern for his safety, stating that he could not return to Nigeria as he worries for his life. He alleged that someone visited his father in Nigeria and asked him to get the victim, his son, to drop the case.
“I worry for my safety in Nigeria; those people can do anything. I think they could arrest me or kill me in Nigeria,” he said. He also told the police that he did not want to claim compensation from the “bad people” as it would be “cursed and bad luck.”
