Officers of the Nigeria Police Force must embrace professionalism, discipline and accountability, as the era of misconduct and unprofessional conduct in the Force is over.
The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, remarked during a working visit to the Edo State Police Command in Benin City, where he engaged officers on the aims and objectives of his administration.
Addressing officers during the engagement, the IGP said his visit was aimed at seeking feedback from personnel on their welfare, well-being, and operational conditions, stressing the importance of maintaining a motivated and people-oriented police force.
Against the backdrop of the recent Delta State incident, the IGP condemned acts of misconduct and abuse of office by police personnel, warning that unethical behaviour capable of tarnishing the image of the Force would no longer be tolerated.
“Let me sound this as a warning to all, that the era of impunity would not be tolerated, as police personnel must be self-disciplined and not the image some of you are giving the police.
This period, we are going to be vigilant as those who are not ready to work will be flushed out of the system.”
Earlier in his address, Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, noted that the command has remained resolute in combating violent crimes in line with the mandate and policing vision of the Inspector General of Police.
IGP Olatunji Disu is the 33rd and 23rd Indigenous Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force.
