In a recent development, the Ondo State House of Assembly has confirmed the receipt of a letter from the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, regarding the extension of his medical vacation.
The governor, who has been undergoing treatment in the hospital due to illness, had previously informed the Assembly about his medical leave on June 5, 2023, with the intention to resume his duties on July 6, 2023. However, he was unable to do so.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Olamide Oladiji, issued a statement explaining the governor’s inability to resume work, citing the doctor’s instructions for him to take sufficient rest after recovering from his illness.

The speaker, on behalf of the other lawmakers, received the letter from the governor and acknowledged that his decision aligns with section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
According to the speaker’s statement, “His (Akeredolu’s) deputy, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will continue to act as governor until there is a written declaration to the contrary.”
The speaker expressed gratitude to God for the governor’s speedy recovery and remained hopeful that Governor Akeredolu would soon be able to resume his duties.
