The Nigerian Police in their detachment launched an attack on hundreds of people protesting against the continued detention of the Biafra agitator’s Leader, Nnamadi Kanu in Abuja on Monday.
The protesters led by founder of Sahara Reporters and a Presidential candidate in 2023, Omoyele Sowore were aggressively resisted by the trigger happy law enforcement agents when they were advancing to Force Headqauarters after taking over major streets close to the city of power (Aso Rock)
Sowore escaped by a whisker from a bullet fired at him by a policeman while several others were injured from scappering for safety.
Over six people fainted from the tear gas pollution which was thrown at the crowd.
The protesters later re-assembled at another street to continue their movement while shops and offices in the streets around business areas were closed.
Similarly, in the eastern states where the detained secessionists leader hailed from, schools, offices and markets were under lockdown as everybody disappeared from the streets.
Especially In Enugu, no single individual was sighted on the road except few motorists playing the road out of the state.
Recall that Nnamdi Kanu was arrested by the immediate past regime for calling for the actualization of Biafra Republic meaning that the Ibos and other southern minorities of Niger Delta should break away from Nigeria.
He claimed the people have not been giving due benefits and recognition as bonafide citizens of Nigeria.
The controversy has led to the death of many people in the Eastern states due to the “ Sit at home” declared by Indigenous Peoples of Biafra.
Kanu’s arrest has generated tension among the Ibos and other supporters in the country.
Despite pleas and legal efforts to seek his release the federal government remain adamant.
