The Plateau State Police Command in Nigeria arrested a suspected kidnapper who was attempting to collect a ransom of 3 million naira (about $7,500) from the father of a victim.
The Commissioner of Police, Bartholomew Onyeka, announced the arrest on December 21, 2022, stating that the suspect, a 22-year-old man from Jos, had kidnapped a 4-year-old child from Abuja on December 19, 2022.
During interrogations, the suspect provided information that led to the rescue of the victim, who was unharmed, and the arrest of an accomplice.

Onyeka also reported that eight other kidnappers were arrested in a separate operation in Quaapan LGA after they abducted two women and that the cases are still under investigation.
The commissioner warned criminals to desist from their activities, especially during the festive period, saying that he had directed his men to provide watertight security before, during, and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state.
