Oredo Government Council legislative arm says no amount of intimidation and harassment will compel them to impeach the local government chairman and his deputy based on a court judgement reinstating them.
The leader of the Legislative Arm, Harrison Izekor, clarified during a press conference in Benin City.
However, a few weeks ago, the Edo State Government suspended the 18 local government chairmen and their deputies.
Following the development, peace has continued to elude authorities at the local government level.
Twelve legislative members of the Oredo government council led by the Leader, Harrison Izekor, held a press conference to put the record straight as far as the leadership of the council is concerned.
Flanked by other principal officers, Mr Izekor affirmed they would not be part of those who want to truncate democracy by illegally removing an elected local government chairman and his deputy.
He said the 12 legislative members had gone into hiding, where they held the press conference to clarify issues.
Mr Izekor said that, recently he was almost kidnapped by some unknown persons for him to go and sit and impeach the chairman.
On their next move, the Oredo legislative arm says they are people with integrity and cannot be bought over monetarily or otherwise as they stand with the rule of law, due process and the court judgement, which reinstated the chairmen and their deputies.
The leader also called President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to state the Edo local government crisis.
In a previous statement, State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Doctor Samson Osagie reiterated that the state government has not altered the Democratic system of the local government.
