Residents of Lokoja in Kogi state have demonstrated against the Area Office of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, demanding a consistent power supply, as the city continues to experience increasing darkness due to a prolonged power outage.

The people expressed their concerns on Tuesday about the unstable power supply and appealed to the AEDC to act quickly to address the situation.

They regretted that businesses had nearly been forced to close due to the ongoing lack of electricity.

The protesters, led by Mallam Iliasu Zakari, the chairman of “Light Up,” a youth movement against epileptic power supply in the state, disclosed that the town had been experiencing power outages since before the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Emmanuel Ajibogun, the AEDC’s Area Manager in Lokoja, commended the demonstrators on their nonviolent behaviour during their meeting with them.

He promised a roundtable conversation with community leaders as soon as possible, acknowledging the shortcomings on the part of AEDC and assuring them that their complaints would be taken seriously.
