Bashir Bashir, the governorship candidate for the Labour Party in Kano state, has switched to the All Progressives Congress, reports a source close to Bashir.
According to an associate of Bashir, the primary reason behind the defection was due to the "exclusion of major northern stakeholders in the party's campaign decision-making process." The same source added that there was also a "lack of clear direction on the interests of northern Nigeria."
The associate revealed that Bashir had held discussions with Bola Tinubu, the APC's presidential candidate, as well as with Tinubu's running mate, Kassim Shettima. These meetings, which took place in both Lagos and Abuja, reportedly resulted in an agreement regarding the terms of Bashir's defection.
Bashir is said to have committed to mobilizing his supporters to vote for the APC's presidential candidate.
It should be noted that Bashir had boycotted the LP presidential campaign rally in Kano back in January.
This news follows closely on the heels of the defection of Yusuf Tsoho, the LP's governorship candidate in Jigawa, to the APC.
