The authorities of the Bayelsa State Police Command have confirmed the arrest of a 38-year-old man, Ukegbu Azubike, for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl, a daughter of his neighbour.

The incident reportedly took place in Ogu, Azokoro community of Yenagoa Local Government of the state.
The arrest is coming a few days after two separate cases of defilement of two girls, aged 12, were reported by the International Federation of Women Lawyers in the state.
Spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, while confirming the development, said the suspected rapist, Azubike, was apprehended on January 25, 2017.
He noted that the suspect had already confessed to the crime.
Butswat said, ”On 25th January 2017, one Ukegbu Azubike, male, 38 years, from Ogu community, Yenagoa, was arrested after he allegedly defiled a 10-year-old of same address.
”The suspect has been arrested and he has volunteered useful information.
Investigation is ongoing.”
It will be recalled that scores of women lawyers in the state were on Saturday thrown into tears following the police arrest of a 50-year-old father for having canal knowledge of his 12-year-old daughter for four years.
Also arrested was a 46-year-old man for allegedly abducting a 12-year-old girl and having canal knowledge of her.
It was learnt that the secretariat of FIDA was thrown into a pensive mood over the double cases of defilement of the two girls.
