Muritala Afolabi, an Iree, Osun State resident, set himself on fire on Friday and suffered critical injuries.
However, as the fire was burning Muritala’s body, several people heard his cries and came to his aid behind Baptist High School.
He was admitted after being transported to a private hospital in Iree.
A vulcanizer, Muritala said that his wife’s emotional abuse and annoyance were why he chose to end his life.
The 30-year-old artisan said he got married to his wife in July 2022, and since then, the woman had made life difficult by cursing and abusing him. He stated that due to poverty and the persistent unrest by his newly wedded wife, he thought of ending it by committing suicide.
His wife also confirmed the incident to newsmen, claiming she didn’t know why he wanted to kill himself.
