On Monday, June 20, 2022, the Federal and State High Courts in Ibadan, Oyo State, and Osogbo, Osun State, respectively, handed down five convictions obtained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) Ibadan Zonal Command.
According to a press release from the Commission's Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, Amusa Abdulhakeem Oluwasegunfunmi, a final-year Transport Planning Management student at Tai Solarin University in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, was given an eight-month community service sentence for impersonation fraud.
The other members are Olamilekan Ridwan Taofeek, Ajisafe Sodiq Olaide, Lawal Samuel Morenikeji, Osuolale Abdullahi Abiodun, and Amusa Abdulhakeem Oluwasegunfunmi.
According to the statement, they were each found guilty of one count of offenses related to cyber-fraud. They entered a "guilty" plea to the accusations brought against them by the EFCC at their arraignments.
The prosecution attorney requested the judges to find them guilty and sentence them appropriately in light of their pleas.
Oluwasegunfunmi was subsequently found guilty of false impersonation in violation of section 22 (2) (b) (1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and sentenced to eight months of community service by Justice Ayo-Emmanuel of the Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State. He must maintain the restrooms at the Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo, Osun State, according to the punishment.
