Married man hires gunmen to kill rival over female lover in Benin
A middle-aged man has missed death by a whisker after some gunmen attacked him in Benin City.
The Standard Gazette gathered that the gunmen called the victim, Efe Kenedy, out for a business transaction unknown to him; the plan was to abduct him.
He was abducted and forced into a bush path along Sapele road in Benin City at gunpoint.
It was gathered that the shooters shot him severally and fled the scene with his debit card after they believed he had died.
The dying victim summoned courage and crawled to the nearby road, where some good samaritans rushed him to a local hospital.
TSG gathered that the man is responding to treatment even as he sustains life-threatening gun wounds.
Over one million, eight hundred thousand (N1.8m) was later withdrawn from his account, TSG gathered.
The police were informed, and the Command Intelligence Rapid Respond Squad launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of Osayande Peter, 32, Chindo Thindo, 24, and Osamudiame Idahor, 28.
According to a police investigation, the gunmen were hired by Monday Ewemade, a hotelier along Sapele road in Benin, to assassinate Efe Kenedy.
It was learned that the victim is set to marry the ex-lover of the mastermind. The female lover quit the relationship with Ewemade, a married man with children, to marry Kenedy.
Furious by the decision, Ewemade contacted his gun-wielding friends to take his rival out of the picture before he could marry his lover.
In an interview with TSG correspondent, one of the suspects, Osayande Peter, who confessed to the crime, said, ” Yes, oga Monday Ewemade contacted us to kill the man. He invited us to his hotel and asked us to fall the man trying to marry his girlfriend.
“I actually thought the man died after l fired the gunshots. We then stole his ATM card and went to the POS shop and ATM stand to withdraw the man’s money, thinking he had died on the spot. I was shocked to meet him at the police, still alive.
“I am really sorry . Pls forgive me . The man pleaded with us to ensure we kill him and he settled us. I regret now “.
Narrating his ordeal, Kenedy told our correspondent.”I thank God for sparing my life. I am a business man and into supply of goods . They called me that they want me to meet with them to supply some items . I went to me them at Sapele road , only for them to force me into the bush. All I could remember was gun shot and l went down. It was God that saved me . I thank almighty God for saving me”.
The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident, said the man who masterminded the assassination attempt would be arrested soon.
