Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari says his wife, Aisha Buhari is helping to improve the lives of Nigerians.
Mr Buhari was quoted as saying that “Aisha as the world has come to know her is kind-hearted; this made her transitioning into philanthropy and humanitarianism easy when she became First Lady.”
The President who departed Nigeria on the 29 of March to the United Kingdom for a medical check-up missed his wife’s biography which was launched on Thursday, 8 April.
Buhari said in the aftermath of the book luanch that book had given him a chance to say a few words about his wife.
The 78-years-old President said his wife’s programme “Future Assured” is helping poor, sick and underprivileged Nigerians even in remote areas.
“Her programme, Future Assured, has provided her with a special vehicle to actualize her dreams: reaching the poor, sick and underprivileged families to improve their wellbeing, sometimes in remote areas, especially IDPs,” the President said.
The President also praised his wife on how she had taken time to defend vulerable people, including women and children in the society.
“Her protective mien also translates to the special energy she exerts when women, children, and vulnerable people are abused. I have observed with keen interest as she addresses many of the social concerns that have given her sleepless nights,” he said.
“The stance she has taken in defence of women in our society across our rich ethnic diversity also ranks very high amongst her passing. This plays a significant role in her ability to organize and coordinate like-minded people around a singular agenda.”
Buhari said Aisha’s effort has helped improved the lives of Nigerians, making her a worthy partner for him.
“All these have added impetus to the effort of the government in improving lives of Nigerians through a more robust economy and a nation worthy of our love and pride. She has therefore been a worthy partner and a beacon for some of the good things that Nigerians have come to identify with our government,” he said.
Mr Buhari is currently in the United Kingdom, his recent medical trip has caused an uproar among Nigerians home and abroad who accused the President of abandoning health sector in Nigeria to seek an advanced medicine in the UK.
