Naira Fall: EFCC Invades BDC Operators in FCT

Reading Time: 1 minute

EFCC agents have searched the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja's Wuse Zone after it was claimed that some Bureaux De Change (BDC) owners were pilfering foreign currency.

Numerous BDC operators in Abuja are concentrated in Wuse Zone 4.

The raid was verified to TheCable on Friday by an EFCC officer.

The source, however, declined to provide any other details regarding the invasion.

A clandestine operation was carried out to invade the area in order to "dislodge currency speculators who are claimed to be substantially vacuuming up available foreign money."

The raid was the product of weeks of surveillance in which EFCC agents watched the actions of the majority of the BDC operators in the axis.

The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, issued a warning to those using naira to purchase dollars for political campaigns, primarily politicians. Naira exchanged at N707 per $1 last week and could further rise.
