On the better part of Thursday, chaos rocked Nairobi’s Kayole estate after police allegedly killed a man for violating the 10 pm-4 am curfew.
John Kiiru, 38, was said to have been clobbered to death by patrolling police officers on Wednesday night.
Reports indicated the deceased was riding home on a motorcycle when the officers arrested him. The motorcycle owner is said to have escaped from the hooks of the officers, leaving behind his client.
The officers allegedly assaulted him and abandoned him, and he succumbed to the grievous harm he sustained.
Kiiru’s body was found at the scene on Thursday morning, prompting the angry residents to action.
They took to the streets, barricaded roads, and lit bonfires, demanding justice for the departed.
Youths engaged the police in running battle with multiple tear gas canisters being hurled.
The deceased’s wife told the media that her husband called her at 12:30 am (local time), informing her that cops have seriously beaten him.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
