A nationwide protest, led by the Take-It-Back Movement (TIB) in collaboration with several civil society organizations, has commenced in the nation’s capital, Abuja, on Monday, April 7, 2025.
The demonstration is aimed at highlighting growing concerns over the alleged misuse of the Cybercrime Act, the country’s worsening economic crisis, and what many are calling a “state of emergency” in Rivers State.
Protesters gathered in the heart of Abuja, holding placards with various powerful messages such as “Stop the Repression” and “Let Us Breathe,” to voice their dissatisfaction with the current government’s handling of critical national issues.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore was among those seen at the protest, showing solidarity with the movement. His presence at the march underscores the significance of the protest in raising awareness and calling for action.
Sowore, who has long been vocal on matters of governance and human rights, joined other protesters as they marched through the streets of Abuja, calling for much-needed reforms and accountability from the government.
In a statement issued last Friday, Juwon Sanyaolu, National Coordinator of the Take-It-Back Movement, emphasized that the protest was a necessary step to confront the growing authoritarian tendencies of the government and to demand urgent action to alleviate the economic hardship that has left millions of Nigerians struggling.
Sanyaolu also called for immediate intervention to address the spiralling inflation and widespread insecurity, which have been the source of daily suffering for ordinary citizens.
The protest, which marks the beginning of what is expected to be a sustained nationwide movement, aims to pressure the government to take decisive steps in tackling the challenges facing the country.
With the hashtag #LetUsBreathe resonating across social media platforms, the demonstration has gained widespread attention, both locally and internationally.
As the protest continues to unfold in Abuja, organizers are hopeful that it will inspire similar actions in other parts of the country, amplifying the voices of Nigerians who feel marginalized and unheard by those in power.
