The Nigerian Navy has released online comedian Abdulgafar Ahmad, alias Cute Abiola, from detention. Commodore Suleman Dahun, a spokesperson for the Navy, verified the news on Friday.

Cute Abiola was reported missing on Monday, November 15, 2021, when his comedy business colleague Debo Adedayo nicknamed Mr Macaroni raised the alarm that he was nowhere to be located after reporting to his office in Navy Town, Lagos, on the same day.

Dahun announced two days after the alarm was raised that the comedian was not missing, but had been jailed for violating military rules by posting a video of himself in military uniform on social media, which was alleged to be in violation of the armed forces’ social media policy.

Ahmad willfully violated the armed forces’ social media rules, according to the naval spokesman, but was punished after being prosecuted for misconduct and indiscipline.

He further stated that the comedian is no longer in naval custody and has been freed to serve his sentence.
