NDDC: Trouble As More Groups Sue Buhari Over Odubu’s Appointment

A group, Centre for Human Rights and Anti-corruption Crusade (CHURAC) have dragged President Muhammadu Buhari to court over the appointment of the new the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Governing Board.

CHURAC filed the lawsuit at the Federal High Court sitting in Warri in a suit no: FHC/WR/CS/100/2019.

The group is praying to the court to nullify the “purported appointment of the Chairman of the Governing Board, Mr Pius Odubu.”

CHURAC’s Publicity Secretary, Oyinkedi Fuofegha shared a copy of the suit with NAIJA CENTER NEWS on Saturday.

The suit argued that the appointment of Odubu was not consistent with the NDDC (Establishment) Act, 2000.

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the matter as the court is still on vacation.

The appointment of the NDDC Chairman has generated a lot of buzz in recent times.

Similarly, another group Midwest Progressives Forum had on Thursday called on the Minister for Niger Ministry and Minister of State for the Niger Delta Ministry, Senator Godswill Akpabio and Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN) over their failure to advice the President, Muhammadu Buhari on the correct position of the law.

The call was contained in a statement jointly signed by the National President, Comrade Andrew Emwanta and the General Secretary Mrs Judith Osarumense.

Mr Emwanta accused the duo of being beneficiaries of the crisis since they allegedly constituted their offices into the interim Board of the Commission, under the guise of probing the finances of the commission.

“As lawyers, they both owe Mr President the responsibility of advising him on the propriety and legality of the nomination(s) to the offices of Chairman and Managing Director of the Commission, which was made in flagrant violation of the provisions of the NDDC Establishment Act No. 6 of 2000.” It said.
