Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 63-year-old Chinese woman for allegedly attempting to bring a large quantity of Canadian Loud, a synthetic form of cannabis, into Nigeria.

The suspect, identified as Ting Hung Kiong, who has obtained citizenship in Malaysia, was arrested on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. She had just arrived from Thailand via Dubai on an Emirates Airlines flight.

According to a statement released by the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, officers at the Terminal 2 Arrival Hall intercepted the woman after discovering two large travel boxes containing 31 kilogrammes of the illegal substance.

During questioning, the suspect, who claims to work as a caregiver in Malaysia, told officials that her daughter paid for her trip from Malaysia to Thailand and then to Nigeria. She also said she had spent two weeks in Thailand before being given the drugs at the airport there to deliver in Nigeria.

In a separate operation, the NDLEA also intercepted a large drug shipment at the Lagos airport cargo shed.

The consignment, which arrived from India aboard an Emirates Cargo flight, contained 29 large cartons holding 1,825,710 tablets of Tapentadol 250mg.

The drugs have an estimated street value of 2.19 billion Nigerian Naira (approximately £2.9 million). The shipment was formally handed over to the NDLEA by the Customs Service on Friday, May 22, 2026.

At the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, officers arrested a man named Onyeka Valentine Emeka on May 20 during the clearance of passengers on an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Sierra Leone via Addis Ababa. The agency said the suspect passed out 185.36 grammes of cocaine while under observation.

Meanwhile, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, a 29-year-old building engineer, Babatunde Prosper Afekhide, was arrested on Wednesday, May 21, while attempting to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Milan, Italy, via Addis Ababa. A search of his luggage uncovered 10,280 pills of Tramaking 225mg, Tramadol 200mg and Tapentadol 250mg. The drugs had been wrapped in foil paper and hidden inside a carton placed in a suitcase.

In Lagos, officers at a courier company intercepted 1,174 pills of MDMA (Ecstasy) concealed inside a bicycle luggage carrier and destined for the Netherlands. They also found 66 pills of tramadol 225mg hidden in a soap container heading to the United States, and 18 tablets of tramadol 225mg concealed in a body cream container bound for the United Kingdom.

In Edo State, a raid on the Igwe community in Owan East Local Government Area led to the recovery of 59 large bags of skunk weighing 489kg, along with 9kg of cannabis seeds.

In Kano State, a 30-year-old suspect, Isah Sani, was arrested on May 20 along the Zaria–Kano road with 196,000 pills of Exol-5. At the Seme border in Badagry, Lagos, officers recovered 59kg of skunk from a warehouse in Mowo on May 19.

In Ekiti State, a raid on a warehouse in Ikole-Ekiti on May 23 yielded 1,116 kilogrammes of skunk. A 54-year-old suspect, Ogundana Adebayo Julius, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

The NDLEA also continues its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) awareness campaign in schools, places of worship, and communities across the country.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retired), praised the officers involved in the operations and urged them to maintain the agency’s efforts in reducing drug supply and raising public awareness.
