A medical doctor in Kastina State, Aliyu Yakubu has died of complications from COVID-19.
The news was released on Tuesday by the state governor, Aminu Masari
The doctor, 60, died three days ago at the Nigerian Air Force Reference Hospital located in Daura.
Doctor Yakubu who ran a private clinic in Daura visited his home state, Kogi State before he travelled to Lagos.
Masari said the doctor fell ill immediately after returning to the state and was admitted to the hospital where he died.
The decease was tested by the Nigeria Centre for Decease Control (NCDC) where it was confirmed positive for Coronavirus.
“We have received bad news about COVID-19. The deceased’s samples showed COVID-19 positive. Before his death, he was also diagnosed with hepatitis and hypertension three years ago,” he said.
Masari said the state medical response team was in Daura is taking samples of all those the late doctor may have had contact with at the time.
The doctor is the Daura’s index case, which brings the total death of Coronavirus in Nigeria to six.
The NCDC had announced a total of 254 cases of the Covid-19 in Nigeria.
