The Nigeria Poice have arrested a drunk policeman in a trending video.
In a statement by ASP Yusuf Mariam, the Police Public Relations Officer on behalf of the Commissioner of Police FCT Police Command, Abuja.
The video of the drunken officer Garuba Salisu surfaced on social media on Saturday. The video has attracted reactions across the country with many residents questioning the standard and ethics of the Force.
On the video, the Salisu was seen surrounded by Nigerians and the resident recording him could be heard wondering why an active officer could be drunk helplessly on the street.
A few minutes later, the video shows him sitting down while a good samaritan poured water on his head.
On Sunday, the Abuja police commissioner, Bala Ciroma ordered his arrest and subject him to “psychological and medical evaluation.” in preparation for the “commencement of disciplinary actions” against him.
Mr Ciroma assured that the behaviour of the officer “does not depict the standard discipline of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner advice residents to remain calm while reiterating the unflinching commitment to the protection of lives and property in Abuja.
