The Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye has raised an alarm of a plan by the Nigerian Police to arrest and detain him on trumped-up charges.
The lawmaker tweeted this on Tuesday morning.

He said “Nigerian police working with Kogi State Govt is trying to frame me up again with culpable Homicide and illegal possession of a firearm. This is going to be the 6th arraignment of police against me. They want to forcefully take me to lokoja and kill me afterwards.
“I was the one attacked by the police, they try to kill me, AIT reporter and other journalists were there. It was reported by Ait and another national print medium. To turn around and accuse harmless me of lies is ridiculous. But this time they will be shocked bc I know too much.”
Melaye’s problem with the police started after he had a fallout with the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello
On March 3, after the embattled Senator was granted bail at an Abuja High Court of Federal Capital Territory, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad were deployed to lay siege in an attempt to arrest him as Dino was busy filling out his paperwork to meet his bail conditions.
The police never commented on the intention behind the move, but Melaye was arraigned on allegations that he provided false information to investigators in an attempt to indict a senior official of Kogi State Government.
The senator immediately refused to leave the court premises after receiving information that the SARS operatives were outside waiting to re-arrest him. The standoff lasted for 6hrs.
In April, the police surrounded Melaye’s private residence in Abuja at Sangha Street, Maitama, over an alleged unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.
The security personnel were comprised of the policemen and the operatives of the Department of State Service.
Melaye who jumped off the police vehicle on their way to Kogi State claimed that he had to as the police had assured him that he was being taken to the Abuja division of the police station.
The Senator was later admitted at the hospital for a neck injury he sustained during the jump.
Explaining the incident, the police said “Our action was prompted by the fact that he was invited in a case of unlawful possession of firearms and other crimes.
“The police had invited him on more than two or three occasions but he failed to honour the invitations. That is why we are there right now.
“You know when a case is in court, there is no law that stops you from further questioning if you need to answer a question on the suspects.”
