Nigerian woman arrested with 600 grams of heroin in Italy

A Nigerian traveller has been arrested with 600 grams of heroin in Italy.

The unnamed woman was arrested on February 17 at Alghero Airport, Sardinia.

The woman was said to have arrived at the airport lounge from Bologna, Northern Italy, when she was spotted.

L'unione Sarda reports that the woman's unease and nervousness drew the attention of the officers of the Guardia di Finanza, an Italian law enforcement agency.

The woman had ingested various pellets of the drugs, and during security checks, she became nervous, leading to a thorough search.

Six wraps of heroin brown sugar, a substance mainly produced in the mountainous regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan, were found in her backpack.

The Nigerian traveller was then taken to the nearest hospital in Catalan town, where it was further discovered that she had ingested an additional 41 wraps of the same substance.

The officials estimated the 47 wraps of heroin to be 600 grams.

She is currently at the Bancali Prison after a court order from Sassari, Sardinia.

Another Nigerian woman was arrested at Alghero airport on 9 February.

The woman also landed from a flight from Bologna with 300 grams of brown sugar heroin which was ingested.
