One Mrs. Rasheedat Eniola Hammed, an assorted wine seller has filed a divorce suit against her husband, Mr. Jimoh Hammed, a trader both living around Oja Oba area, Ibadan.

The Plaintiff informed the Court today that her twelve years union with Jimoh which was blessed with two kids, Faridat 6 and Aaliyah 2 has since been hell as Her husband is not responsible, a wife beater and He will never cater for his children’s school fees and feeding.

“While I was pregnant with our first child, my husband is not around, I called to inform him that I needed some money to buy baby things, He told me he did not have money, it was my mother who gave me the money to buy the baby things, and also when our rent dues, since he is not around, he refused to pay also, it was also my mother who took up the responsibility so that I will not be evicted. My mother-in-law too did not help matters, She starts alleging that I brought another man’s pregnancy for my Husband, that was when I got pregnant with our second child.

Since his mother started this, he too started misbehaving, beating me heavily anytime they had a little misunderstanding and stop catering for her and their children, he also stopped paying their School fees. “He is a man with a hot temperament, so every time we had a misunderstanding, he threatened to kill me, there was even a day he took a knife and threatened to stab me!

He is a heavy drinker, and a womanizer, He has left home sometimes in 2015, leaving me and the kids with nothing to eat.

He came back later to apologize and pleaded that we should continue our relationship.

Three weeks ago, he came to our home, demanding to see his daughters, I brought them to him. And He later said he wanted to take them with him, and I did not agree with Him, he again started beating me to the extent that I sustained serious injuries. My mother came and tried to settle the fight, he started beating Her too!

While debunking the allegations, Jimoh who is a trader said it was not that he is not responsible, the nature of His occupation is what makes him travel for a long time, and that His wife is a very poor manager of funds, as He as on many occasions given her some money to help boost her trade, but she always squander the money, “My lord, there was a time I kept some money with her, the money is for my visa application to the United Kingdom, when its time for me to pay for the application, I requested the money I kept with my wife, She cannot produce it. I was very angry but there is nothing I can do about it as her mother was there and pleaded with me to please forget it”

“On the allegation that I beat her Mom, she lied, what happened was that; there was this argument between us that morning and before you know it, She started yelling at Me and held on to my shirt, her mother too came in and started shouting at me, defending her daughter and lurked my shirt from the back.

“I never beat Mama, it was when my wife bit me on the chest and I slapped her to stop biting me that my mother in law pushed me from the back and I fell down to the ground, that was when my wife fell down too and got wounded, but She is now claiming that I wounded her.

I left home for her in 2015 when I discovered that she is promiscuous due to the nature of her business, whenever I went to her shop, I do see some of her man friends there, there was a time that I was hinted that she was taken to a hotel by one of her men friends, I later saw her on many occasions going into a particular hotel with some of those men.

The incident that now brought me to my senses was when on a fateful day, I received a call from my father-in-law, Baba asked me to come over to their house and buy some Bitter kola (Orogbo) and Kolanut with me when am coming, which I did.

When I got there, I saw Baba with cutlasses, a local gun (laid down) and some other Iron objects.

My father-in-law now ordered me to chew some of the Bitter kola and Kolanut, after which he ask me to swear to Ogun (god of Iron) that I will not leave His daughter, if I do leave her, I will be killed either by gun or a terrible motor accident. My mother-in-law was there too! I do not ascribe to this. After leaving our home for her in 2015, I have met and fallen in love with another woman, who bore me a child.

As to this my lord, If my wife wants a divorce, I will totally agree that the court separates us, so we can go our separate ways.

The President of the Court, Chief Henry Olasunkanmi adjourned the case till December 12, 2017, for further hearing and judgment.
