His Royal Majesty, Ewuare the Second, Oba of Benin  has advised journalists to always cross-check their facts before publication to avoid distorting facts that are inimical to the S
society.

The Benin monarch advised a media parley with journalists in Benin City.

The Benin Monarch used the opportunity to clear some grey areas including returned looted artefacts, suspension of Enigie and shortfall of allocations during certain a period among others.

The quarterly media parley with the Oba of Benin has been consistent before now.

Since it was not forthcoming, the leadership of the NUJ, Edo council led by Dr Festus Alekhen brought the matter before His Royal Majesty who  approved the parley but with representatives of the 15 NUJ chapels
The revered Royal Father said one of the reasons why the parley was put on hold was due to a shortfall in allocations due to the Benin traditional council before the current administration of Senator Okpebholo rectified it.

The Oba of Benin commended journalists for the publicity accorded the return of the looted artefacts despite several attempts to frustrate the exercise.

On suspension of over 70 Enigie, the Benin Monarch said they revolted against the palace and commended the governor for the gazette to ratify the wrongs.

He said some of the suspended Enigie from Igbanke who now claim they are from Delta State is laughable.

“It was abnormal to see the three of the Enigie from Igbanke that joined in revolting against the palace suddenly saying they are Eze even calling on the government to relocate them to Delta states this are abnormalities that must stopped and not be encouraged from anybody that has the traditional institution’s interest what the refuse to recognize is that all natives in Benin and Edo South am their patrol so where are they now running to it is really a sad situation.”

His Royal Majesty also gave historical background on a series of antagonistic tendencies the palace had faced with the government in the past, making reference to the spiritual land that was forcefully taken over by the defunct Midwest government at King’s Square Housing Unity Bank.

The  NUJ chairman of Edo State Council Dr. Festus Alenkhe thanked the Benin Monarch for the fatherly role his majesty has been playing in the life of journalists.

He appealed to the Oba to intervene in the cult-related violence that was painting the image of the state in a bad light.

” We journalists have resolved to remain loyal to the palace at all times and promise to do our best for the interest of the palace at all times the NUJ chairman concluded.
